Hi all,

I've hired a horsebox and I'm bringing my horse upto Lancashire (near Fleetwood) for the Christmas holiday period.

I would be really grateful if anyone could suggest good routes/places to ride? The internet mainly brings up the route through the Forest of Bowland.

Thanks!!

Well, I was going to say The Trough of Bowland

It is very nice up there.

There is also Rivington Pike, that is outside Chorley.

Oooh, where are you staying/liverying? You can park up near Rossall Hospital and ride down to Fleetwood or as has been said, box to Blackpool/St Annes and ride up there.

Beacon Fell is OK and pretty quiet this time of year, PM me if you want a map/advice on where to park.

Where are you coming from - you may find the riding round here a bit er rubbish...

Greygates on here has a nice yard in Stalmine and the hacking round there is OK, but all roads.

For something quite unique, you can park on Blackpool Zoo carpark and hack round a bridleway/cycleway/walking route. That's free, too.

can you get on the beach up in that neck of the woods? (wrong side of lancs for me really)

what near Rivi? no. TBH I prefer there but I am biased!! I like that you hack for hours - my record was 5 I think and not cross the same path, and also schooling on the fields

If you ever get chance to go on a frosty quiet morning, it's magical

There are quite a few bridleways and very quiet lanes round Greygates.

The Zoo one is good too! Planning to take Ruby there for a change/to see the lions, lol

And a good few places to go on the beach too

I love Rivi. But i have to go down a mega slippy steep road to get there so don't go often

You can get to it from a couple of different ways though i think. As brighthair says, lots of lovely big fields for schooling, or better a good canter. All of which are massive bogs at the moment though

Although there's lots of good tracks too.

Thanks for all the information! I really appreciate it.

I'm getting so excited now - I cant wait! I'll make sure Bowland and Rivi are on my list of rides to do. Although the idea of coming across lions sounds pretty fun too!

We are coming up from Loughborough area, and staying in Pilling, so I'm sure the riding will be better/no worse than here!!

Thanks again
