I am currently on the look out for a rug (or at least neck cover) that is suitable for horses with long necks. I do try to buy neck covers and rugs separate as the combo rugs always come up short and seem to resemble a high neck on my boy who unfortunately has a neck a giraffe would be proud of :D However the larger neck covers fit better length wise, width wise they are keeping his knees warm!

To those owners who may also own a horse with a mutated length of neck please let me know which brands of rugs you use.

i find masta neck rugs are generous - they have a buckle like fastening for round the neck so can change it to any width you like. My horse was meant to have a small neck rug in slumberdown- accidentally got a medium which was perfect in length, so bought a medium in masta and it was about 4 inches too long - gave her a nice hood :p

G is part WB, part giraffe and he wears a Rambo Duo. They do neck rugs in different sizes so G has a 7ft even though he actually only needs a 6ft9. If I just went for a normal full size neck rug it would probably only come half way up his neck.

I find my Premier Equine turnout rug (buster trio) comes up the longest out of all the rugs I have :) (I also have problems with getting long enough necks even though only two of mine actually look like giraffes!) and has a lovely elasticated neck so no water goes down. Brought the horses in today (been horrid weather) and the PE was the only rug which hadn't allowed even a little water down the neck :). Other turnout rugs I have with shorter necks include Bucas (though better than a lot), Shires and Amigo. Im trying to remember how long the necks are on my Swish rugs (h/ws so not had them on yet), if memory serves me correct they are about the same as the Bucas rugs - second best to the Premier Equine :).

I am glad to hear a few of you mention the PE rugs as I have had my eyes one them for a long time but don't know anyone who has one to know how generous the neck covers are.

Ps holy crap most of the popular sizes have completely gone already in the 450g stable. That will teach me to wait around :(

I just got the trio today I'm well chuffed like a kid in a sweet shop! Just been trying all the bits on! I've only used Rambo rugs for about the last 15 yrs theis is faw superior the neck covers are superb!
I've a 16.2 with a 17.2 neck ( we call him the cut and shut lol) and ordered the 6'6 rug which came with medium neck covers so I was unsure they would fit as on Rambo they are always tiny and only cover half his neck but the Pe is ample big enough ( also lovely deep cut rug nearly comes to his knees!) I don't think I'll be rug shopping anywhere else again only tried on and not tested out as yet but really seems very good high quality ( I don't work for Pe btw!)

Another vote for the premier equine. It fits our WB so well, and as he has Gelderlander blood from his Dutch Courage bloodlines,he's a bit of a giraffe too.I also find JHL rugs fit well.

I too own a part giraffe and have found that derby house combo rugs only come half way up neck, but got a mark todd combo turnout from ebay and the neck comes right up to his ears. good fit depth wise along the body too.

I have a few DH ones for him, not the most ideal but at the time it suited my budget. May put his rugs except one or two on HHO swap shop and start a fund towards a new decent rug.

I have the JHL lightweight (standard neck) and I believe they are similar to the MT ones and it fits him very well but haven't had a neck cover from them.

I've got a PE with the elasticated bit on neck & can confirm it's a good fit on long necks. It's very generous sized but lovely & cosy & never leaks.

PE it is! I am so glad to read such positive things about their rugs as I have ordered a few things from them before and love them and their service. :)
I really like the idea of having the elasticated end, especially as my lad is very good at getting a tonne of mud down his neck covers :D

I used to have a giraffe-like WB, he took a 7' rug and I found the Mark Todd rugs were fab. I bought the LW TO combo and it came right up to his ears.
