Good side-effects of being horsey?

It helps you learn about budgeting money... especially with the price of hay this winter! I can juggle figures better than any accountant thanks to my lot of horses!!! :D

Just started college. Every one complains 'Argh, I had to get up at SEVEN today'

Seven? That's a lie in lucky bugger. I'm the only one who turned up at college not resembling a zombie ;)

having something to look forward to at the end of a long day in uni, oh one thing i do find funny is people are half asleep in lectures at nine in the monring when im up at five to muck out etc and still look semi presentable in semi horsey clothes for uni lol

Being strong, determined, fit and lastly, my firm botty has to be the best thing. Sorry to degrade but no other exercise keeps me overall looking so good. Perseverance and persistence too.

i second the bedroom department situation! ;)
i'm part of my college student union committee and when we went for a quad biking day out i was complimented on my super-straight position! although my speed-freakishness on horseback unfortunately does not extend to quadbikes.

LMAO, that's what I was like at uni! 9 o clock class, everyone comes in yawning and stretching, clinging to their coffee, just out of bed; I've been up since five, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (although it feels like lunchtime ...) :p

I can repair just about anything with a length of baler twine:D

Yep, me too! And duct tape!
I think I am a better and more cautious driver because of horses, and also having to care for them has forced me to get off my arse when I would rather not have for various reasons.

Also, it is a shared interest for my daughter and I (she being the main handler/rider, me being support crew) and I think horses have had a very positive effect on her as she's grown up

Not wasting time/money shopping, getting hair done, nails appointments like what 'normal' women do. Not understanding much about what's on tv or what's happening in the world of celebrities. Not caring if the house if a mess. Not caring what the weather does or if you might get muddy. Being able to fix stuff and carry heavy things.
Also you can keep up with your boyfriend and his 'extreme sports' buddies - excellent balance and upper body/core strength means you can surf, rock climb, mountain bike etc like a proper bloke. And you don't get scared/broken/damaged like their girlfriends do.

I have made a number of life-long friendships because of horses. Almost 30 yrs ago I volunteered to help a local RDA group. Some of the other volunteers are now a huge part of my social life. I have also made friends with members of my local RC. The skills I have learned as a committee member of both these organisations have gone onto my CV and have definitely helped me to further my career - this has also been reciprocal - for a while I took a group of children from my school to a their local RDA group.
I have a reputation at work for being unflappable, I am sure that this is because I think something is only worth panicking about if a life is threatened, otherwise it is just something else to deal with. Definitely a lesson learned from keeping horses and other animals.
