I have decided to put some clippers on my christmas list this year (or to ask for money to buy some!).

Am not going to have a big budget so I'm wondering if there's any good clippers on the market for under £150?

They need to be heavy duty, as my ponio grows a very, very thick coat.

Any suggestions? I know nothing about clippers...

Good clippers and under £150 are not normally two phrases found together!! Be wary, I only today, scrapped a set of clippers that a young lady bought 4 weeks ago as a "bargain" on e bay. They were working when she bought them, but suffered motor armature failure the first time they were used to any great degree. There are lots of dubious quality machines on the market, mainly made in China and often inferior copies of established brands. It is not always the clipper itself that may be of that poor quality, but the spares and backup if something goes wrong. It is very easy for some sellers to market products cheap, when they don't have to employ service personnel or support staff and unluckily the "3 F's mentality" (Flogit,Forgetit and Flee) seems to be a marketing mantra which is starting to enter the clipper world! I am sure that you are keen to get clipping, but remember that your clipper is an investment, which if looked after correctly should last 5 to 10 years, so invest wisely in a known brand, look at what the people who clip around you use and ask opinion. The internet/ebay is a double edged sword, it is easy to buy rubbish, but it is also easy to search for a true bargain, so I would advise, spend more and look "long term"

ooo an engineer on HHO! How useful! I guess I'll have to be a very good girl for the rest of this year and hope father Christmas can bring me some expensive clippers. However, with the cost of hay and straw for the reindeer having gone up, he might not be able to stretch to posh clippers...
