after being kicked on monday night, my just 5yo (was her 5th birthday yesterday) mare called 'G' has been at the vets with a tendon injury. she has had her tendon flushed out tues, wed, thurs and this revealed that she's damaged her tendon sheath, and ligaments extensivley, and may possibly have damaged her pastern joint. she just missed her main tendon, she has been putting weight and walking on it better each day but is on alot of painkillers. tomorrow the vet will be changing her dressing without sedating her, if she behaves i may be able to bring her home soon, but because of her age she probs wont be well behaved enough for me to manage changing the dressing on my own, so this would mean another 2-8weeks at the vets. and then home on box rest for months.
however if she goes lame there are 2 options 1) flush it again but theres no guarentee this would work 2) call it a day
So please send your get well vibes for 'G' Thank you

tendon injuries take a heck of a long time to heal. if she needs more treatment id flush again, if still lame put her in foal? she looks a lovely type, this will give her time to heal, and she would manage being pregnant with a small doesage of painkillers. At least if you ever decided to call it a day you would have a lovely reminder of her.

get well G.

Things is, she isnt insured, vet is going to get a copy of how much iv spent so far, so i can see how much its cost me. But even if she was insured i wouldnt be able to claim because iv had her for less than a week, and you cant make a claim till 14days. Hopefully she will pull through

This is an awful week for H&H horses. Friends new horse went up 2 days after them getting it, went over backwards and killed itself, last week. Was a VERY expensive horse too..

Insurance only don't pay for first 14 days for illnesses that may have been hidden. Accidents are still covered usually.

If the tendon sheath has been flushed sucessfully theer is every chance she will make a good recovery.
