Hi one of the horses i ride who is an excellent walker ( really walks fast other horses have to jog to keep up with her )
has for the last few days been walking really slowly normally you need no leg pressure you just point her and off she goes ... but on the last couple of hacks she has been really lathargic ...

Two weeks ago she had a puncture wound in her hoof from a nail in her shoe that she half pulled off .. had the vet and a course of antibiotics and was kept stabled for a few days ..
Farrier came out last week and checked her hoof for any soreness she did flinch very slightly but he replaced the shoe and said to keep an eye on it ...

Do you think it could be related to the puncture wound ?? there is no heat in her hoof and she is not lame

She does have joint problems and is on Cortaflex daily

Have said i will see how she goes being ridden on Monday before i call the vet

Anyones views would be appreciated

If a horse changes its usual way of going quite dramatically, it could be many things. Some time ago, my normally forward going horse turned into a plod overnight. Very unlike her. The vets did a blood test and she had picked up a virus. She had a month off, mooching in the field and was fine afterwards.
