My mum and I's old girl Gypsy was PTS today. She was somewhere between 28-30 years old and after having 2 foot abcesses in January, she was starting to show her age. So we decided that we did not want her to suffer and mum arranged for the vet to come out today.

I got to see her last week to say goodbye. Although Gypsy lived with my mum and I did not get to see her that often, I still feel like there is a huge hole now.

I'm beginging to dislike March- its almost a year since losing Sirrius (30 day Andalusian x TB foal) to a joint infection.

Anyway, her are some pics I took last week of Gypsy:

I'm going to miss this spotty muzzle, with the nose breaking "kiss" for a polo

Still showing her cheeky side

I'll miss you my hippo, may you run free over the rainbow bridge.

Ahh she looks so similar to our old pony who we had to have pts a couple of years ago - and looks just as cheeky.

She looks happy in these pics though.

Rest well Gypsy xxxx

Thank you everyone.

We had Gypsy for 18 years and bred a super foal from her (who's now 16). She was a very cheeky, but loveable mare who wanted to go everywhere at 90 miles an hour!

She was still happy, but was getting very pottery on her legs and we didnt want her to go down and not be able to get back up.

Bless her, she'll run all the way to rainbow bridge and when you feel sad she'll fun back to comfort you.... She'll never leave you.
Hope you get over it soon.
Love Lisa.

(((((HUGS)))))
I know it is very hard for you right now, and i don't need to tell you it will get easier with time

Remember the precious times you had together.
And she would thank you for letting her go with dignity and without suffering

My god is it really a year since you lost "the little man"? can't believe it
They will run together now, free from pain

Im so sorry Hazel. I know the last few months have been up and down with her.

RIP Gypsy.

I hope Septre is ok without her too xxxxxxx

Hugs to you and your mum xxx

Hugs to you & your mum.

It sounds like she had a wonderful life with you both, a very lucky lady indeed to have such caring owners.

RIP Gypsy. She looked a lovely mare. When they reach the stage where there is a chance they may go down and not be able to get up again I think it is the right decision to make. I had to do the same with my old mare 2 years ago. These oldies leave a huge gap but at least you know you gave her the best possible care throughout her life and particularly at the end of her life.

Thank you again for your kind words everyone.

Missugoopy, I cant belive it either, its a year on the 26th.

St_B, Septre seems to be ok, she saw Gypsy so I think she knows she has gone and there are still the 2 little ones to keep her company thankfully.
