Yesterday I let my beloved Troy go. He was full with feed, carrots and fruit and had been watching the mares. He was as happy as he could have been and very calm. He couldn't have gone in a better way. I will miss him so much but I am comforted that he will no longer be in pain.
Troy
The first time I laid eyes on you I knew it had to be you. When I sat on your back and laughed at your bouncing and sparkle. I wanted to pamper and polish you and get you looking as fabulous as you could be and as you deserved. You challenged me but you learned what I taught. You grew into the most handsome creature I have ever seen, with a sense of fun and a gentleness. You bounced and pranced when I was on your back but looked so carefully after those who were small or scared.
When I was sad you knew and breathed into my face, your deep eyes looking troubled. When I was happy you played and made me giggle, but always so careful not to hurt me with your size.
I loved to be with you- riding you under trees, flat on your neck, trusting you to carry me safely. Showing you off and enjoying you showing off too. Grooming you and scratching all the itchy bits you pointed out with your nose and smiling as your lip stretched out in enjoyment. Galloping and clicking in your ear to ask for a bit faster and a bit faster and knowing that as soon as I wanted to slow you would. Sitting on your back as you lay in the sunshine.
The horse of my dreams. I hope I can hold you there forever.
