On the 65th Anniversary of D Day, Gordon Brown manages to cock up his speech to the heroic veterans who fought to liberate Europe by refering to the Omaha beach landings as the Obama - yes, OBAMA beach landings

What a complete and utter a***hole.

Obviously, overcome by the presence of the omnipotent Mr Obama, Gordon could not even read a simple speech. I accept that this is difficult when one has ones head stuck 2 foot up the aforementioned omnipotent gentleman's behind.

I personally, with a grandfather who was killed in WW2, find this quite disrespectful and insensitive to those who died and those who risked their lives to liberate Europe.

The man is a first class idiot, in fact an Olympic medal winning arse.

Today his priorities came across loud and clear. Suck up to Obama and bugger to everything else.

The sooner this man is out. The better.

I sat and listened to a man give a genuine impassioned straight from the heart speech, and must admit I missed that bit.
You mustn't have been listening to the same speech as me because I posted on here how proud of him it made me.(no I definitely don't vote labour either).
I think considering the time the man's having at home he actually did very well, it was obvious his words were meant, so I think you're being a little silly, I would like to bet those veterans there didn't worry about a one word mistake.
 
Agree with henryhorn. And like henryhorn, I do not and never have voted Labour.

I guess some people (like the ones who were there booing him, which IMO was completely inappropriate given the circumstances) were just waiting for him to slip up and to jump on that; while others took the speech as a whole and saw what a wonderful speech, overall, that it was, especially as this 'c*ck up' was not intentional and so should not be seen as 'disrespectful'.

I feel sorry for the man. He went there as part of his duty as Prime Minister of this country, sure, but maybe just one day as important as this anniversary, could be set aside to be free of any hatred towards our PM.

I'm afraid I hold in much lower esteem, those who used the opportunity to display their discontent with him and to pick up on everything he said wrong, and use it against him.

He may be an ass, but even news reporters READING use the wrong word sometimes.
 
Anyone can make a slip of the tongue. What I find embarrassing is his whole look and demeanour at this event. Obama and Sarkozy looked like heads of State/government. Brown looked like he was the janitor who had come to clean the place, but had turned up an hour too early and got in the parade by mistake.

I feel embarrassed to have my nation represented by this man at such a solemn occasion. At least the Prince of Wales was there and lent an air of dignity.

twot .. im not bothered he made a boo boo there , its his economic record thats so bad selling our gold reserves at the wrong time and screwing our pension industry for instance....

I think Mr Brown has only a few days left in power (thankfully, before our country goes totally down the drain.)

I feel very sorry for him, actually, for not only taking on a job which he's not quite up to, and to which he was not elected, but for also not having the sense to bale out when the going was (er, slightly) better. Who would want to be in his shoes right now? I'm just a pleb, but i know who my friends are!

I'd like to say how much respect and eternal gratitude i feel for all those young lads who gave their all for our freedom, 65 years ago. God bless them all. X

I'm glad that Prince Charles was invited (albeit last-minute), but it's such a shame that our beloved Queen can't turn round and say 'oi, you lot, you forgot to invite me! Come on, give us an invite, or one will turn up anyway' (That's real freedom of speech!)

Looking at Mr Brown's c**k up in a different light - i personally like everything President Obama is about. Please may we have him for our Prime Minister? He's a damn sight better looking, too!

Seriously again, i'd like to express sincere respect and thank you for everyone who fought for our country and our freedom at D-day. BS x
 
Whilst no fan of Gordon Brown, and the sooner he goes the better and takes the Labour Party with him, I do wonder whether the fact that he is blind in one eye leads him to make this sort of mistake. He's fouled up on reading his speeches before and it may simply be because he can't see properly. On this, if nothing else, I might give him the benefit of the doubt!

I expect the Prime Minister of my country to conduct himself confidently and solemnly at an event such as this. Petty matters such as whether he will still be PM this time next week are irrelevant when honouring the heroes of a previous generation that saved us from the Nazis. Obama and Sarkozy are both facing political problems in their countries, but they rose above these matters to do their job on this day.

I hope not! As a Conservative supporter, I want him to stay in power until the General Election as he is the greatest asset that the Conservative party has! Sort of a cross between Heath, Foot, Eden and Neville Chamberlain.
 
Following the drubbing Labour received in the recent elections, GB is now getting so desperate he is trying to change the election system! Presumably in a pathetic attempt to gain a better share of the votes . . . . why doesn't he just bow to the inevitable and resign before embarrassing himself further. Britain must be turning into a laughing stock to the rest of the world.

Unfortunately this is what happens when one man or one party try to run a country to suit themselves. cf Russia under Stalin. All he can do is react, retrospectively, to try and minimise vote loss.
