hi everyone...

just wondering who's been over to the sales at cavan and goresbrigde? what were the horses like? what were the prices like?

any info would be great.

thanks!

Cavan= excellent venue/facilities etc.
Generally I have found the the catalogue an honest guide to lots on offer. Vet. service good. Transport easily arrangeable. Friendly. Brilliant cafe/restaurant/food at a reasonable price. Good trial area (under cover) Good atmosphere, stabling & ease of veiwing.

Prices?? Like most places ..... the good ones, get the good prices. I find the prices a bit on the top side. But I have found many quality horses there.
I do wonder sometimes, just "where" some bids come from. A little "celestial" occasionally??????
Hope this helped.

By the way ....I DON'T WORK FOR THEM!!

cavan-excellent, good facilities, has everything you need. I think the prices are not all that cheap, i.e anything good didn't sell for less than it was worth

Oh I'll be interested to hear the replys to this post, I'm pretty tempted to go over to Ireland when I'm in a position to buy again.

Price wise, what you looking at for a unbroken 16.2HH +?

I went to goresbridge a few years ago, not with the intention of buying, just was on holiday and kind of planned it so we would be there for a sale.

There are good facilities, and a great atmosphere, I expected it to be much bigger than it was though, I think I had built it up in my mind. The entrance was like a door in a wooden wall next to the pub - unless that was the back entrance?

I saw some horses I would have loved to take home. They have pictures of famous horses that have been through the ring and it gets you dreaming!!

I still love looking at the catalogue every now and then to dream. Price wise was reasonable. Not really bargain though like you used to hear about.

One day I'll have to pop back with a box and bring some home!!

I used to assist with producing horses for Cavan (over thirteen years ago) and at the time was amazed at the quality and prices achieved. I remember in particularly a 16 2hh mare 4 year old I was riding who achieved over £3000.00, wasn't expected to make £1500.00. Sold abroad. Great craic, just don't be fooled as so many people have kissed the blarney stone....

Wishing you every luck.

Went to Goresbridge at the end of March. Nice venue. We went for the Sports Horse sale. No bargains to be had really. Lots didn't sell and those that did went for decent money. Apparently Septembers sale is the big one.

the 3yr olds (only unbrokens I saw) went for some astronomical amounts at cavan it has to be said.

Prices? Well how long is a piece of string? Generally you get what you pay for. Not so many bargains now as sellers are more willing to take horses home again and some have silly reserves TBH. I would say though that sometimes very average horses make more than you'd think.

Cavan is probably the more attractive of venues with better facilities and such but IMO the better horses are at Goresbridge perhaps in part due to the fact that many of the better mares are futher south (again IMO) and also due to the fact that Goresbridge has been around for a bit longer and seems to get more foreign dealers.

I agree about the street enterance to Goresbridge being a bit diagon alley like though I think most people do come in from the main carpark at the other side!

The best sale is goresbridge september sale and if you're looking for an unbacked 3 year old then this would be your best bet I'd say. Much more choice.

In reality it isn't too expensive to come and take a look. Do your homework, know what you want, stick to your limit and get it re-vetted.

ponies actually sell cheap-but tend to be there for a reason, know of one bargain, 13.2 grade A went for pittance, a real shame, and not a bti wrong with her at all.
