I'm looking for something to bring on and event this summer. I've heard quite a lot about Goresbridge Sales and a couple of friends of mine have had a lot of success with horses from there. I don't have a lot of money to play with - what sort of prices do horses go for there? I'm planning to go to the next one so any tips, stories and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks

I went to Goresbridge a few years ago with the view to getting something at a reasonable price. I found that for quality horses the prices were around the same as you would pay everywhere else.
You also had to know what you were looking at as many had very good riders on them and were not the easiest of rides.

it is the best day out ever!!! U have hundreds of horses to see and they r all in the one place- some good some bad but u can pick up a bargain! I loved it when i bought my 3 yr old there last yr!

I would agree that you have to be very aware. You can get a bargain with young stock particularly if there is no recognised good breeding. IMO alot of breeders and dealers here would use Goresbridge to off load anything they couldn't or didn't want to sell privately. As for prices I think they are the same as anywhere else for what you are buying. It is certainly a good day out but I always want to come home with everything!!

hahah i know me too- and then the wee ones no one wants i want to bring home too!

We came home with a lorry load last time but unfortunately they were other peoples!

if u go into the picture gallery and go onto the second page a post by me of layla she came from the sales 3 months ago she had been broken two weeks before the sles now just be borken over 3 months has to be the best and the nicest horse i have ever had really recommend but u have to be careful what you buy as lots is c**p like most sales...

I love Goresbridge, I have been going there for a few years with friends (and this year I'm going with a view to buy!

), and there are some amazing horses to be had! They are all vetted prior as well, so you know exactly what you're getting!

Thanks for all those replies! A lot of success stories. I've decided to go for it and am sorting out travel arrangements as I type

When you buy something do you have to arrange the transport for him to the UK yourself? Then how long does it take for him to arrive? I guess it's a pretty long trip for the horses! Do you need to give them a certain amount of time off? What did you do when your horse arrived? It's only a few weeks away so I want to make sure I'm prepared in case I do get something!
Many thanks!

have you thought about getting an exracer to bring on to event?

I have considered it but I really want something to event this summer so I thought that if I bought something either from a racing yard or a sale then it probably wouldn't be ready to event... I just went to see one on the weekend and it needed a lot of work before it would be ready to do anything. But I haven't cancelled out the idea!
