This is Sprite. He is in his 30s and my firm favourite work pony! Today I took some portraits of all our school ponies for the website update and just wanted to share this one as he looks beautiful. The usual policy is that ponies spend a few years with us and then get sold onto loving one to one homes so they're not stuck in the school their whole lives. However, Sprite has lived here pretty much all his life-being a livery for most of his time before being in the riding school. He also has medicine to take and he is happy here without the stress of moving on at his age after he has been here most of his life. It would have to be a VERY special and trusted someone to take him for permanent retirement. I'd love to find his old owners so they could see this photo. He still does the odd walk and trot lesson (though he sometimes likes to add a bit of canter in there!)

His favourite thing to do used to be jumping, but now he just enjoys being fussed and loved. We adore him!!

If anyone else has any photos of golden oldies, please post them!! I'd love to see.

What a handsome old man he is!

These are some pictures of my much-loved Sixpence. He's rising 25 now, but you wouldn't know it! He has some recurrent tummy issues stemming from his Prascend medication, but aside from his tail needing cleaning on a regular basis (which is a super unpleasant job, let me tell you), he's actually pretty great for his age. He's barely ridden these days, but that's due to his teenage rider rather than him, and still loves getting out and about whenever he can.

I LOVE these sorts of threads, they make my day! Sprite and Sixpence are both gorgeous and certainly don't look their ages. Long may they continue to be happy and cherished. My RS horse whom I love to bits is a mere 18 this year, a young whippersnapper in comparison, but his and my combined age is 81. He is gorgeous, I am not.

My pony Billy, who has been a nightmare to manage this past 18 months with the usual problems associated with cushings lol and he's only 20! Just diagnosed with EMS hence the clip as he's having to do actual work! Totally bias but I think he looks smashing! (fluffy or clipped!) :)

My share horse turns 20 this year, and still acts like a 4yo most of the time. Other than a touch of arthritis in his hocks (occasional steroid injections and plenty of turnout) and a small cataract (expect him to spook at the smallest thing) he's bouncingly healthy, and happily teaching me all kinds of fancy dressage malarkey. Hacking, otoh, can be rather exciting, and last time I tried jumping him I wound up in hospital. (That raised trotting pole needed at LEAST 5' clearance, in case it jumped up and bit his belly.)

All the OAPonies on this thread look superb, in really good condition and loving life. Such a refreshing thing. LOVE threads like these.

This is Henry, 28. He has arthritis and cushings....right up to the moment the vet tries to take a blood test. At which point he decides he's a fit healthy Lipizzaner stallion, doing airs above the ground. He'll still canter round the field too, which is the cutest thing ever(!) though his mane(see what I did there?) job nowadays is keeping the delinquent thoroughbred in check.

This is our resident golden girl - she's 27, a former polo pony, and mother of the spotty hooligan. She's a clever old lady, who keeps herself to herself, stays out of trouble, and doesn't have a bad word to say about anyone. Except the vet...
She and Spotty are moving on to pastures new today - I'm going to miss them both!
