gorgeous horse!

Gosh yes, what a lovely boy. Wouldn't mind him myself :)

Edited to say - he would be on the X register I take it.

Nice, but not exactly a "full welsh D"!
Spot the obvious error?!

From what I gather it's technically possible...the Sabino gene is very common in a lot of welsh bloodlines from a bit of roaning thro to belly splashes to even this kind of extreme Sabino splash....am by no means an expert and I know others on here know more on their colour genetics...but I looked into it quite a bit as one of my boys is full sec d bright bay with blue eyes, bit white face with broken edge...Sabino.
Considered desperately unrepresentative in the showing world usually but looks like this boy has got a bright competitive future instead so doesn't matter I suppose.
Agree he is gorgeous.

Often, the Sabino gene comes from Nebo Daniels lines. I can't post photos, but in one of my albums are photos of my Welsh D with that breeding, clearly visible are the splashes, white legs and fairly wide blaze. I agree you would have a problem,I suspect to show him in either native or full Welsh classes.
Probably someone with more knowledge will correct if we are wrong!

No, I think you are right - my boy's grandsire is Nebo Daniel so it is definitely carried in that line...and i know of others..apparently it's from when hackney/Morgan blood was introduced (which carry 'paint' genes)...but it is definitely frowned upon if too extreme....

This Wesh B also has Splash white and sabino, just more minimally expressed.

His passport would be interesting. How can he be pure bred ?

He will make someone happy, but all I see is a cow hocked, shallow and unattractively coloured pony.

I agree, those hocks look pretty shocking, would like to see a decent pic of him standing up without tack or rider, he could just be an awkward ****** with the way he is standing... Having said that, I like the colour... But it would not be appreciated in the welsh classes and I suspect that if you were to dip dye him black he would come up poor by comparison to other d's

Shame you couldn't show him as a Welsh cob :p That's not a splash, surely that's a coloured (I'm not colourist btw - I have a piebald part Welsh show cob and a black Welsh cob so I love anything of that stamp lol). He could be shown as a natïve, though! Interesting that someone managed to breed a coloured full-Welsh, mind, I'm guessing he has a lot of splash/tobiano/sabino types in his line (check me out, having learnt what they are due to a previous thread of mine). Nebo Daniel had a fair bit of white on him but nothing like that, though the white is passed down the line from him.

Looks a useful sort, though, I'm sure someone will have a lot of fun with him. He would turn heads here on the south Wales hunting fields, I bet ;) I don't usually like them with a mostly or all white face but his is rather nice. I think the rear hocks look odd but that could be the way he's stood. Tbh he looks a lot like my gypsy bred coloured and they tend to breed them a bit cow hocked.

You need to remove the arbitrary idea from your mind that only white on the body and of a certain size = a coloured horse. White on the legs and face are caused by the same genes that cause white on the body.

EG sabino can give a small star (minimal sabino) or a horse will so much white that it's completely white (maximum sabino) and everything in between.

As a Welsh cob fan I don't find this Welsh D at all attractive.
It certainly looks like Sabino in the extreme which to my limited knowledge started really in the pursuit of four white socks which inevitably gives white belly splashes through some bloodlines. This article is quite interesting regarding Welsh/sabino colouring:-

Ah Faracat you have confirmed what I have been stumbling my way to with some basic research I did with my boy...I've described him as a coloured horse in disguise before now and had some very odd responses :D
Thanks!

Look, I can just about get my head around piebald and skewbald with small splashes on the legs and bellies for Welshies :p
This horse looks to my vastly uneducated (as far as colours are concerned) mind to be a coloured because he's at least 50% white. He would not be considered correct in a Welsh cob class as far as I can see because he has much more than a belly splash and white legs. His tail seems to be odd colours, too.

That said, if he can jump showjumps or x-country or do a dressage test it matters not a jot what colour he is.

I'm sure he was for sale a while ago as I recognise his pic. shame they don't have any decent pics.

Yep, he's been for sale before. Hope his owner won't mind me saying this but his loan is ending early and she's just had a baby.

Had a strange feeling it'd be Dieago before I even opened the thread. He certainly makes you look twice.
