Need some advice! One of my instructors has a horse for sale and has entered him into the Goring Heath PN on the 29th. Never been to this event before, how easy will it be to watch (as much as possible of) his three phases?

Plus, do you think its a good idea to go and watch the horse compete?

Definately a good idea to watch the horse competing!

Obviously you can get a good view of the sj and the dressage, but the cross country is a bit of a trek away. You will be able to see bits of the XC but not all of it.

What sort of horse are you looking for? I know of 2 very nice ones for sale, one Novice eventer & one potential eventer!
 
Yes, go and watch!! Ditto O_B however, the xc you can watch the start, finish, and a few other fences aswell as the warm up! You can get a decent veiw if you stand in the right place

The xc has limited viewing, but nevertheless take the opportunity. More than anything I would be eager to see his attitude in a competition environment, eg, in the lorry, when tied up, left on his own, when tacked up, warming up etc. Fingers crossed you like what you see!
 
Thanks guys, I guess I can't expect to see all of the XC! It's a great idea to get to see his attitude to the whole competition really, I think that is so important.

Am after an eventer with a bit of experience to introduce me to my first affiliated season, something relatively straighforward as a ride, but with scope and ability so that I can progress up through the grades ideally to Novice over this season and next. Am open to all suggestions, loan, buy etc! If either of the two you mention sound possible, could you email the details and some pictures to helenb@fridays-group.co.uk?

I have just been looking through pictures from Goring last season. The xc, if you stand by the warm up you can see about 5 fences clearly

There is a hill, which if you stand at the top at you can see about 6? but that is even further than walking to the xc itself

For the XC if you stand in the corner of the starting field you can see the first couple of fences, then you can nip accross to top of hill (by the big novice drop fence) see the horse come out of the woods and down to the water plus next couple. Then nip back to where you were before to see the finish.
 
If you're up for running you can see loads of the xc. You have to start in the bottom corner of the first field, then scoot across along the top of the 3rd field as soon as the horse is over fence 3. You then see the drop, water, trakhener, step up and they disapear. You then need to run very, very fast all the way back up field 1 and if you're lucky (and havent died) you'll see the last loop.

It's do-able, I've done it several times!!!
