Cheers V - judging by the number of proper pros who picked up penalties at that fence, he was rather too much like them! Think I was very luck he is agile and did not tip himself over!

Annoyingly, a clear XC without too many time would have left me in the top ten - in fact without any time he'd have been fifth! So clearly if I can stay in the plate and he can remember to pick up his feet, we can be competative at Novice!!

Hi Tilly, Sorry to hear about your fall, watched the Video and like to say Boys tried to put himself on the line he thought you should be taking!

Great dressage result and Excellent SJ round and as you know the XC isnt an issue for him. He looked great around the rest so it obviously hasnt effected his confidence, well done for getting back on and finishing!
 
Well done! it was a really tough for a first time novice so dont be too hard on yourself! lots of positives to take from the experience im sure

It was amazing how many people had problems at that box fence- but it did sort of come out of the blue a bit! good luck with your next event

LOL, thanks Carthorse, and you know what they say, where there's no sense there's no feeling!

DD it was 1.10 with up to 2 at 1.15 but TBH the IN class SJs looked closer to what we jumped at Dorset, so not convinced it was a real 1.10. And yes, I hurt like bloody hell today, and have a good supply of pain relief gel going!
 
Clearly with good reason! I was terrified enough as it was, without having people waiting for a report! And then I crashed too - doh! At least I can only get better!
 
Well done for getting round - its not fun having to get back on after a crash.

I'm afraid to say that the box in the video is one that goes on tour - I've met it three times over at various locations - it was in the RC champs last year a novice somewhere (don't remember where...) and at the area pony club course three or four years ago at Gadbury! We actually checked with event organisers and realised that it is in fact a 'semi portable' and it's the same fence that gets dragged around the country... always causes lots of problems though.

I have always jumped it square on, but with the open side to my left so that the face of the box is slightly wider than the width of the box (and if ferd loses one shoulder it is always to the right) - we've always had a good shot over it, but that's more luck than judgement!! Watching others over it, those that try to jump over the point seem to have most difficulties, always looks better jumped square on.
 
I really wasn't trying to jump the point! We had a difference of opinion! I was trying to do exactly what you describe - jump the slightly longer side so it is marginally less wide. Sadly B thought he would line himself up with the wings...

Oh well, if it is portable, I guess we'll meet it again somewhere, I may shut my eyes!
