Got a bit lost with what wormer to use....

Right i'm trying to work out a wormer to use soon, yes i know not to use them if not necessary but i want to worm for encysted at least. Will do tapeworm a bit later in the year as advised, and worm count in the spring.
Looking for an all round plus encysted but this doesn't seem to exist and now i've been going round and round getting lost!

Any advice on what one to use for the moment...? :o
 
A bit early to treat encysted. Worm count now, if nothing needed then wait till end of Nov. Use Equest Pramox at that point to treat encysted and tapes.
Alternatively use Equitape in the next few weeks and plain Equest in Nov/Dec
 
Only two things kill encysted redworm effectively: moxidectin (Equest) and a 5day dose of fenbendlezone (Panacur 5day guard).

To make it pretty simple: You need to think about 3 groups when worming. 1) tapeworm 2) encysted red worm 3) Everything Else.

Tapeworm is only effectively killed by a couple of wormers, the most common being praziquante and pyratel embolate. . Annoyingly tapewormers are fairly ineffective against anything else unless at high doses.

Encysted redworm is a ****** to kill and only done by the above. Thankfully anything that kills encysted redworm will kill pretty much Everything Else. But not tapeworm.

Everything Else (pin, hook, round etc) is fairly easy to kill with a bog standard ivermectin. But ivermectin has little effect on encysted redworm and tapeworm.

I therefore worm for tape and encysted red worm twice a year and a cheap wormer occasionally over the summer (or poo sample)

A single dose of panacur? That'll kill 'everything else' inc pinworm. Most single doses of most wormers (except tapewormers in some cases) will kill 'everything else'.
