Earlier on today, Adrian & I were arguing about whether he was going to have his forelock plaited. He made me overbalance off the mounting block & the upshot was that he got an accidental poke in the nose & I got 1/3 of a chunky plaiting needle, the threaded end, stuck in my hand, palm side, about a cm below the crease where finger meets palm.

I pulled it out & carried on plaiting, but now it's really stiffened up. It's slightly swollen but feels very bruised, & just now I couldn't practise the piano so had to do left hand only.

Is it likely to be just bruising? The finger is working but the knuckle joint is sore. Tetanus is up to date. V annoying as I'd planned a v industrious 2 weeks on the piano & now that's b*ggered.

Ouch - but thank you for providing me with another reason not to plait - it's obviously far too dangerous! Can you sue the needle and thread manufacturers?

Ok seriously! That happened to my brother but the eye broke off in the nerve in the middle of his palm and it had to be operated on. The trouble with hands is that all the "workings" are very close to the surface. I would get down minor injuries as you don't want to end up with an infection, and it may need scanning to check for damage. Hopefully it's just soft tissue and bruising but I would mantain a high degree of suspicion if I were you. I personally would go sooner rather than later.

but you could always soak it in warm (as hot as you can stand) salt water, then when dry use an Elastoplast which should suck out any gunginess; repeat as necessary but it will be sore for a bit. Trust me, I've done it myself (stuck a needle in!) and it hurts!

Ooooowch! I'd probably go get it checked by a Dr or somebody too, just to be on the safe side & make sure it doesn't get infected. On the piano side of things, you're more than welcome to have my hands for a week or two as i'm getting fed up of practicing mine this week! lol.

Hope it gets better quickly.
