Another post reminded me of a horse that had a big domed forehead. He was an absolute pig of a horse and I remember an old nags man at the time saying that horses with domed foreheads are always difficult and to avoid them (I dont need any convincing after knowing that horse and wouldnt buy one that had that shaped head even if everything else looked perfect.

Equally I have known 2 horses with lop ears and both were the most genuine lovely horses ever. I would be very warm towards any lop eared horses as a result.

Do you have any preconceptions about physical traits? Either positive or negative?

Hope this post makes sense -- if not ignore me and I will go and do some work!!

I love horses with big ears, and there really is such a thing as 'kind' eyes in my opinion. I also don't like small heads.

I have a chestnut TB mare with a 'domed' forehead.

She can be an absolute baggage - but I love her for it (most of the time).

Don't think her personality has much to do with her appearance though.

Well my horse has big ears and a very kind eye, and he was a gentleman so I kind of associate horses with big ears as gentle.
Oh he had that prophets thumbprint on his neck aswell if that means anything to anyone.

Prophets thumbprints are caused by pressure on the neck whilst the foal is in uterus. They are actually meant to be very lucky! Certainly was with my anglo-arab that has got one

I don't mind small ears/white rims around the eye because I love arabs & they are traits of the arab breed. Some of the nicest horses I've known have white around their eyes.

Many people love duns but having had a very bad experience with a dun mare I used to own I would always avoid buying another one!

My TB has an incredibly kind but cheeky eye and waggly ears. He has an very expressive face and constantly makes me laugh and is such a loving horse who is totally genuine - you find yourself trusting him just by looking at his face if that makes sense.

I would always go with a kind eye because all the horses I've known with mean eyes turned out to be absolutely horrible. I don't know how it works that their eyes determine their character but they seem to!!

I like big, bright intelligent looking eyes.

I actually like it if you can see the white of their eye - the kindest horse I've ever met was an ex showjumper chestnut mare who always showed the whites of her eyes and she was an absolute saint - it left me with a fondness for chestnut mares too.

I totaly agree with the kind eyes and big ears theory.

I also think you can see in a persons face what there character is like. For example i never trust people with very dark, dark brown eyes, especially if they are small .And i hate eyebrows that meet in the middle!
