Got my new horse (cleveland bay)!!

I have had my new horse now for 2 weeks & he's settling in really well. He's a Purebred Cleveland bay & is 6 years old. Here's a few pics of him.

Thanks, he's a gentle giant. My plan is to just get him fit & work on his flatwork & do a few days hunting & do some fun rides & hopefully do abit of dressage. But my main goal is to just have some fun with him.
 
What a lovely looking horse, he has some real substance, just the sort of horse I like. I look forwards to hearing updates once you start getting out and about.
 
This must be Justinian - lucky you ! I remember seeing him as a yearling at Tregoyd and since then have followed him on the their website.
 
This is a question out of curiosity.

Why did they geld him or other pure bred colts/stallions?

It's something i have wondered about before as i know their breed is endangered and i would have thought more stallions would help increase the gene pool.

I was told that he was sold to someone in France as a Stallion & that they bought him back because he wasn't settling well. They said that he came back & was then broken in as a 4 year old & they had him gelded because they had already got another Stallion & didn't want/need two. Think they planned on keeping him as a riding horse. He wasn't advertised. I found out about him through a friend. Also believe they kept a filly by him to breed from. There stallions run out of with the mares. But to be honest didn't really question them a great deal on why. Just fell in love with his temperment.
 
He's fabulous! I really DO like the CB! Should I ever win the Lottery (I can dream lol) I would most certainly breed them! It's a marvellous breed that really shouldn't be lost!
 
fantastic choice. He looks lovely; Clevelands are wonderful horses- I used to have one and he was just wonderful- I still miss him

If all colts were kept entire there would be a hell of a lot of stallions and not many mares. It's about quality control and it's mare's in particular that we are realy short of...

OP he is lovely! nice big stocky chap! just hope mine fills out to be a similar sort!
