I took up rising again 12 months ago after some 20 years, and am thoroughly enjoying it, although admit to being nervous. I have the opportunity to have a pony on loan, but my feeling of euphoria has gone to blind panic. I feel I will be letting myself down if I turn down the opportunity, let alone mucking everyone around, I doubt my own ability. Everything is "what if?"

First, remember it's a loan, so if it doesn't work out, you can always return it. Second, what does your instructor say? If she's encouraging, then maybe you'll feel more positive.

She too is encouraging, She would say if she thought it not a good idea, like you say if it doesn't work out he can go back! it is my nature to see the worse case scenario! My children often tell me to "chill"!

Then listen to your kids and your RI on this one. Just make sure you've prepared everything for the pony's arrival (maybe go down a checklist with your RI or the pony's owner), and prepare to enjoy it!

I say go for it. I am also a bit of a worrier / anxious rider. I got a star just under three months ago and he is doing wonders for my self-belief! Yes there are rubbish days when I dont seem to get anything right, but the good times and our achievements cancel out those a million times over.
It sounds like your instructor is supportive and no doubt will help you, as I'm sure will other liveries. It might be your pony, but you dont have to do it all on your own.
