Since loosing my mare of a life time and still waiting her ashes :(:(:(:(:(:(, I am trying to keep busy (not easy.)

I am fed up spending a fortune on rug reproofing, only for the rug to come back still leaking , so now I will do my own ones.

Which rug re-proofer do you recommend. My rugs are mainly Fal Pro

I have used Lincoln before and I bought one from a camping store for tents yet to try ( cannot remember the name.
money no the problem ( is but want the best)_ I want one i can rely on

Remembering our loved ones:

I bought my mare a sunset apple tree to remember her by

Her new window had the sunset shining through so seems appropriate
put all her dog tags on the branches livery will buy a plaque.

Any other ideas?? I have mane and tail samples for jewelry . I thought of a silver chain with her name on. and I have her tattoo. Any more ideas for me or others to remember our beloved horses??

Good Morning.....I have used Fabsil in the past with success. You can buy it in a large tin (1ltr) and then transfer the liquid to a sprayer. That is the most economical size and it means you can regulate the spray intensity too. You can buy spray cans, but I found this hard work as I was going over and over the rug to try and cover it properly and using a few can son each and they are a few pounds a can :(

AH the apple tree is a lovely idea. I like the horse tail bracelets - they look really smart :)

If you can find it anywhere the hydrophane one is brilliant, I've used it for over 15yrs, water just beads & falls off my rugs, even with one ponies swimming habit. I couldn't find any this year, so used tent reproofer, so far so good.

I've had a beautiful photo put on to canvas, and a smaller one put into a lovely frame with a candle alongside it. I haven't sent off my tail yet I'm terrified of it getting lost in the Christmas rush, and the order book is closed till after Christmas anyway. The necklace I'd like is mostly her tail but has a heart hanging through it. I've spent many, many hours searching for the right thing for me personally, and having done so, sort of feel a sense of peace if that doesn't sound too corny? Of course I shall keep some back in case it should get lost in the post.
My friend kept mane and tail, which she is going to put on an old family rocking horse...

I think we used to use Nikwax. Don't remember the details, but am on a cost cutting exercise so will watch this thread with interest!

Picture onto canvas, bag, cushion (good for snuggling).

We have a fleece rug from each of the horses we've lost. D2 snuggles in hers when on her bed reading and mine is in the study. I wrap myself in it. Very comforting.

D took Tiggy's last two shoes, mounted them on a piece of wood (stained and polished the wood, kept the shoes as was), and put a name plaque on it. Lives in the dining room. Makes me smile on a daily basis.

Hugs hunny.

The apple tree is a lovely idea.

I like the idea of jewellery, too.

Although when a friend of mine lost her horse, I put a piece of his mane wrapped in ribbon in a small silk bag, and put some charms on the bag - an angel, and a star.

I do have another small silk bag if you'd like me to post if to you?

Juno is buried in one of our hay fields, in Spring I will simply go down and spread a bagful of flower seeds and oats where she is.

As the others said, get a good portrait done, or have a photo put on canvas yourself.

ty very kind:)

Sorry for your loss... I hope that time will be a healer for you.
Just a thought - you don't need to buy all these trinkets to remember her by - close your eyes and she'll be there, always.

When my old boy left earlier this year, I had a necklace pendant made with his tail hair and my OH welded a few of his shoes together to make a doormat which is now outside our back door. I sold his saddle a few months later (a very hard thing to do but he had two saddles and I kept the dressage saddle), I used some of the money to buy all the drinks when I met up with my closest friends. It helped to turn the sadness from the sale of his saddle into a happy memory with my lovely friends.
