Ok so last sunday I moved my 2 from my idiot ex's place to a new livery. Baby ben had never been at a livery and is all told, good as gold, barring the odd learning hiccup.
Loading was a laugh, I loaded Ebony, then ben refused and planted himself, to which ebony threw a hissy fit and got her legs over the partition, then head under the partition (lorry was supposed to be easier for ben!) then lifted partition off!! so unloaded Ebony, loaded ben, then finally after re-loading ebony got to yard 2 1/2 hours late.
Anyway, back to the point... until now ben had been kept privately, the only time he was stabled was when he was with ebs, so at 2 he arrives at a working livery yard with 11 horses. To all intents and purposes he has behaved like a gem, he gets brought in before ebony so stands in for a couple of mins on his own, then I tie her outside and go and get him a pony in for company for while I ride. His little brain is dealing with loads for the first time and I am very proud of him. Enter miss Parelli!
So yesterday I bring him in, tack the girl up and another livery (who to be honest has a heart of gold, if misguided) she lent me a huge ball to put in his stable which he played with, she then asked if she could go in and see him in his stable, I said yes. As a disclaimer I will add that I have known her for 3 years and never thought she would do what she then did! So there ben is, all up in her face over the stable door being his usual space invader... and she does the whole 2 handed wave thing smacking my youngster in the face repeatedly!!! I have to say I took a few secs to react, I was in shock! on the one hand he is bolshy and just looked at her like she was a flappy chicken to be trodden on! He is (to date) unfased by flappy chickens. I then corrected myself and told her to stop eff'ing smacking the hell out of bens face, that if she wanted to get him to move back she must tap him in the chest as I do, and that I was willing to treat her horse as she wished and expected the same for my horses, if he bites her she can pinch him on the nose, if he is bolshy poke him in the chest etc... I also found myself thinking she is lucky that ebony is well trained now because a) she would have really made eb's headshy in an instant and b) she would not have seen her 18th birthday if she had done that to Ebony!!!!
sorry, pretty pointless post but I really need to rant and say ARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!! I eff'ing hate parelli, I can't believe that for decades we have been told not to hit a horse in the face because it makes it headshy and now because of some jumped up eeejit in america it is now a sodding cure all!!
