I use Tractive which is a subscription service. I chose that as we have good mobile coverage in my area. I charge it every 4-5 days and so far, so good. Been using it since August. Was v helpful to help me relax when training in the woods or areas I didn't know very well. And also helps me know where he goes with the dog walker ... + the general peace of mind on the yard etc.

What is the battery life like on this? From my googling Tractive seemed to have the best reviews and the "virtual fence" boundary would be particularly helpful. Although I found one that only activates when you send it a text requesting dogs location, so the battery lasts a lot longer, but not sure if this is worth it or not.

I charge every 3-4 days, and I never let it get under 10% battery life. You can check remaining battery life on phone or computer and you get an alert when it drops under 10% (but I don't normally wait for the alert to plug in). On "live" tracking I would think the life is quite short but that's the same for all of them. Tractive seems to "check in" every hour when it's not moving and every 10-20 minutes when it's on the move but not "live".

The virtual boundary is super helpful! I have one set up at my house and one at the yard. The house one lets me know when the dog walker picks him up and brings him back (I have pretty extreme anxiety at the moment and I find this very helpful); the yard one allows me to go about my chores with less stress as he ferrets about for rats. [At the yard I have also added a radio controlled "beep" sound to his collar (an ANCIENT device I used for an experiment decades ago) and I've trained him to run to me for a piece of cheese when I press the beep. So if my phone tells me he's left the boundary, I press the button and back e comes for cheese. Actually only did that 3 times and he seemed to understand that when he reached a certain point he was insta-recalled.]

I've never had a terrier before and I've found the whole experience harrowing lol. He's a cooperative terrier, compared to others I read about, but he's small and independently bold!

Thank you so much! That's a better battery than I thought, I will definitely get one of these. Our garden is large, and well fenced to keep two pointers in, but terriers seem to find every non existent hole going and hes already been retrieved from the neighbours driveway once! Terriers are such a nightmare aren't they, lovable little rogues...! My old dog had pretty poor recall if she was on the scent of something interesting but never showed an interest in just wandering off...whereas Ted seems to revel in sticking two fingers up and disappearing over the horizon...! I think now I'm older and more paranoid I'm always worrying about him getting out/hit by a car/picked up by someone whereas with Tink I was young, carefree and shrugged with a "she'll be back when shes killed the rats..." !

Thank you :)
