Anyone used one? Any recommendations? Do they even work?

I have a 2 year old male cat (neutered) who we tried to keep a house cat for as long as possible, but it is just not fair on him as he is very hyper active. So we have been letting him out under (sort of) supervision. In the past 8 months he has never gone far, only our garden and occasionally the neighbours gardens. But yesterday he went missing, we called and called (he usually comes running) but nothing. We looked up and down the road and asked the neighbours but nobody had seen him since lunch (very uncharacteristic). We were besides ourselves wondering where he was. He eventually rocked back up at home at about 2.30am cold, scared, hungry and with very muddy paws. I can only think he got lost!

Since it would be unfair to keep him in, I reckon one of these GPS collars might work, but don't want to shell out the money if they are not worth it!

I would be interested in one of those. I think my cats stay very local and only go missing for hours on end when the weather is good. First sign of rain and they sit on the nearest dog or person to warm up!

There's a few on the market but im struggling to find many reviews, so it's hard to know if they are worth it!

I have a semi feral cat who I'd love to put one of these on to see where he disappears off to for months on end (I swear he has a second, maybe third home!). It's also probably now as he's due for his flu vac and hates the vet (ever seen a cat clinging to it's owner trying to hide from the vet ... Yep that's him!)

I'd not even heard of them. My only worry would be they would lose the collar if this is how it's activated? So then it's useless and costly to replace I bet? They have done cat flaps for years like this haven't they? But the latest picks up the cats microchip so no need for a collar to be worn. I used to put collars on my cats but now don't - they are both microchipped though.

Yes, but I figure if the cat loses it you can still track it and go and find the collar. You'd have to act fast and do it before it ran out of battery though.

I've been looking into these for my cats; unfortunately most recommendations are that the gps trackers are really only suitable for dogs as they are so large, unless you have a huge cat like a Maine Coon they probably wouldn't be feasible.

I've decided to invest in the loc8tor plus as the tags are only 5g in weight so not too restrictive.
