Well, it has been a very long day!!!
We set off from the yard at 9.30am this morning, and arrived at Richmond at 12pm, so we made much better time than expected (it was the Leeds Festival too). I went for a wander around to see where everything was as felt pretty intimadated because there were some lovely horses already doing the P16 test so I watched a few to make sure I had it in my head.
At 12.45pm I tacked up Grace and started warming her up for the Prelim at 1.42pm. I wanted her fully relaxed and working... well, it all paid off!!! As I came out of the test I was absolutely thrilled with the way she went. She had a small wobble down the straight line because she wasn't listening to my right leg enough at the time, but everything else felt like the best test I had ridden. I cooled her down for a few minutes, then went to untack her because several names had been called for the prize giving and mine had not been called
I was a bit disappointed because I felt she had really tried.
Anyway, saddle half off I heard the tannoy asking for R McNair to get to the mounted prize giving
Saddle was thrown back on, I jumped on and trotted her all the way to the arena... But when we got there I still did not know what her score was or where she had been placed. They started saying the 10th to 5th place and we had not been mentioned. Then the 4th and 3rd were called... still no Grace.
I burst into tears when they told me she was 2nd out of 28!!! That means we have qualified for the Finals down in Hartpury
I couldn't believe it...
We had a couple of hours before the Novice and she behaved really well while we ate sandwiches, M&S lemon drizzle cake etc etc. I tacked up for the Novice at 4pm and again she warmed up really well. However, the class was running 30 mins or so over which just made our warming in time a bit too long and she was a bit tired by the time she went in.
She did a really nice test, it felt the best Novice she has ever done apart from in her second medium she decided to do two flying changed
I have no idea where they came from! The marking was pretty low to be honest, the highest when I left with only 4 to go was 66%, and Grace was on 64.75% which I was really pleased with seeing as she did the changes.
We were lying 4th when I left out of a class of 32 which I am completely thrilled about seeing as she has only been competing since May!!!
My friend took some pictures so will try to upload them when she sends them over.... but I am absolutely shattered having only just got home at 9pm. I definitely deserve my Thai Red Curry that I am about to have
So a very very happy day
