It was only unaffiliated, but it was the first novice she has done.

She got an 8 for her medium trot and came out with 64.78%

These are us warming up...

Thanks... I was pretty pleased with that.

But, we got 5s for her medium canter as not done anything on that really... any ideas how I can work on this before her next test on Sunday?

Well done! She looks fab - thinking of you and Grace gives my some hope with my very green lad! I need some words of wisdom to keep me going!

Grace is still VERY green

We did a Prelim before this Novice (remember last time she got 73.75%) and she got 61% because she spent the entire time snorting at god knows what and just wouldn't listen to one thing I was asking of her

Thanks... I hope this is the beginning of things to come. She is a lovely horse, but sometimes she does get threatened with being turned to kitticat when she is having one of her moments

Well we've gone right back to basics and establishing walk first. He's very nervous which suggests he's been beaten before or hea not long been backed. I sort of know what I was looking for but underestimated how green he was and how much work needs doing. However he's here now and won't give up. He's got a fab temperament and has taken to hacking fabulously but in the arena he's very, very nervy (even though he wouldn't dream of broncking and pissing off). Just need to get him settled and trusting me! Help!

Not huge amounts, but teaching about pressure and release at the mo, lunging loads as well and getting him listenting to my voice (which he's doing very well off the headcollar). I've brought on a couple of youngsters but he is so, so different to what I've had before - much more quality and presence and far more potential ability which is why I want to get it right now. He picks things up quickly and am having regular help with him but is there going to be light at the end of the tunnel? I hope so!

S_V - would love to see him

Pics?
Can really recommend long reining/lunging with two lines - even just doing some in walk to start with is beneficial. Helps establish voice aids, builds trust and encourages the horse to find his own balance.
Good luck with him - sounds as though he will be so rewarding.

I can e-mail you a pic of Becki Moody riding him! She said he's mega talented and will be a fab horse if I get it right now! He's SJ bred - Emilion/ Magic Darco (grandma was a 148 jumping pony) but has fabulous movement and my aim is to dressage and SJ him - if I can learn to ride him!

I think so too - not the best pic but he's very handsome in real life and I'm very hopeful that he'll come good.

Oooh yes - lovely!
He will make you a lovely little horse - are you aiming to event him or concentrate on dressage?
You will learn to ride him - it takes time. If it is any consolation I couldn't ride mine when I first got her

It's rewarding though when it starts to come together bit by bit....

Just pm'd you! I adore him and he's so easy to handle and so amenable and gentle - really cuddly and will thrive on a one to one I think. Really just need to build that trusting relationship with him. Plan is to dressage and showjump him. I was never into the whole eventing thingy anyways - wasn't a natural and got far to nervous to do a good job. At least this new one jumps - amazingly!
