Ok... this is the sarcoid above Grace's eye before the treatment started:

As you can see, there is no raised area just a dried skin appearance.

Leahurst prescribed Zorac cream, which is also used for people with psoriasis in a different strength. I have to take images for Leahurst at 7 days, 14 days and 21 days, so I will post them on this thread and perhaps a few in between ones too as it has definitely changed since the first pictures.

She has been recommended to have seven days of being treated twice a day, then a further seven days of being treated just once. I am also giving her Thuja tablets that have been recommended by someone I know how has a equine herbal company too.

I hope this thread will be of some interest to others who are thinking of having their horse's sarcoids treated

Very interesting! I'll see if I can get a pic of Maddie's, as I think this looks like a lesser developed version, good luck!

This isn't the best pic, was from about a year ago and theres been no change (though it is slightly damp in this pic so looks less dry)

I am feeding the Thuja tablets, and applying the Zorac cream...

I fed the tablets before applying the cream (ie. when she started having the cream applied I was no longer feeding the tablets, but they had been in her system due to 5 days on and we are now at 10 days off them).

The sarcoid has changed a lot this morning. The grey areas of skin have more or less flaked off and there is pink skin underneath this now. I will get a picture in the morning.

wow, I've seen loads of Sarcoids but I didn't realise they could look like that, the ones I've seen are more like sticky outy types. (if you get me)

Are they just like rough patches of skin? Is it raised?

please excuse my ignorance!

A friend of mine has a shetland with a sarcoid on his eye, he is going to Liverpool for treatment at the end of the month so I will pass this post onto her, his is slightly more on the eye lid though.

There are 6 different types of sarcoids of all different shapes or lumps.
Becky I presume you are under Derek Knottenbelt at Leahurst?
He has done alot of research in sarcoids & is the best oon them I would say. He told me once of a lady that came to him with her horse as her vet had been treating it for ringworm for 2 years on it's neck. before it had finishe ccoming off the ramp he was like "Oh yes there sarcoids" Before the owner was at the bottom of ramp with horse she was on phone to her vet as she is a barrister!!

Looking very good anyhow.
Also homeopathic medicine does not contradict or interveen with any other medicine, so fine to give along side.

*laura toddles off to find out about about sarcoids*

ooh, I've found lots of differant things out about Sarcoids now.

thankyou everyone.

Becky I hope you don't mind me asking but how much did the cream cost you?
Just wondering how much to expect to pay if my vet recommeneds it on saturday. Feel free to PM.

I am not 100% sure to be honest, I think it was around the £60 mark (inclu. VAT) and so far I have hardly used any of it as you just need a pea sized amount and I have been using it twice a day

Today I started using it once a day, so we will see how that goes as Leahurst want an image on day 14 next

I would ideally like for the area to have some hair growth on it once it has healed... but she kept scratching it and making it bleed before so something had to be done really!

that looks alot healthier, and it isn't as red now.
has the red area shrunk a bit?

I think that is a good description actually... I know it looks sore but there is definitely pink skin underneath.

I'm just about to order some thuja cream and tablets as my boy has what I think are sarcoids on his sheath. Was only a tiny one last year and this spring a new one has developed, so I think it's time to do something.

JetSet - did you get the cream you mentioned from your vet? Is it somthing that burns the skin at all?

Also, for those familar with thuja cream and tablets, can both be used at the same time? I'm thinking yes, seeming as they're herbal remedies.

Keep us posted with your results! I'll try to get some pics of my boy's this week, providing anyone doesn't give me a funny look for taking pics of his boy bits!
