Following her colic surgery on 16th December, Grace has developed a stitch abscess caused by a rogue knot from one of the disolvable stitches. I have kept my eye on it very closely due to the nature of it, and last night I decided this was looking pretty nasty.

The vet had told me to bathe it and hot poultice it for 5 minutes, but Grace was not having any of it

So after a few waving back legs, I called the vet and they came up, sedated her, and removed it!

Sorry for those who are squeamish... but I thought I would put some pictures I have taken of it

We don't have waving feet

She has been a complete angel to have it cleaned which just shows how much pain she must have been in before it was cut out

Looking much healthier!

I had one of those when I had a lump removed of my shoulder blade years ago. The top & bottom wouldn't heal they were the knots of the dissolvable stitches. Mum was having a look & squeezed it & the knot poped out!
Healed up within days after that. Luckily she did not have to poke her finger in my shoulder blade!!
