Enlighten me!!!

Do you use one?
What made you deside to?
Pros?
Cons?
Anything else you'd like to add?

Thank you

I used to use one a horse i rode away ago,
I used one because he used to try to get his tongue over the bit and clamp down also kind of grinded down on the bit (don't know how to phrase it lol!).
The pro's are that it stopped this and the only negative is that if it is positioned too low it can affect the airways + breathing etc. But a mexican grackle is placed higher so minimises the risk of that.

I did like the grackle and saw a huge improvement in the horse and i had much more control.

Hope this helps x

As far as I know grackle nosebands are used for horses that cross their jaws.

That's the phrase i was looking for!!

They are also good for horses who dislike the pressure low on their nose but also try to open their mouths as an evasion as the point of pressure is higher than a flash and I think you can have them looser and they still be effective.

I use one as horse cant cope with a harsh bit or any poll pressure (the wuss :S!)... means i can jump/fast hack with some sort of breaks, i couldnt belive the difference it made!

Would deff reccomend, before i had one he crossed his jaw and used to get tounge over the bit (still does in the cavisson i school in occasionally with loose ring french link).

Editied to say cons for me are that it cant be used in dressage and is a pain to keep the wool on it clean :P

Toto was in a flash for ages and then a drop but he still used to open his mouth and evade the bit so we bought a grackle not long ago and it's made a lot of difference already! Over the last week his schooling has really improved and it gives me more breaks on hacks!

Yes - I use one on the Jazz horse!
Decision - I knew that Jazzy was crossing his jaw when I wanted him to slow down, which left me with very little in the way of brakes.
Pros - I can stop the Jazz horse!
Cons - none, as far as I can tell!
Anything else - it is a good way of controlling Jazzy without having to resort to using a stronger bit. He would other wise be in a pelham or combination bit permanently, leaving me little else if/when I take him on fun rides. I would still have the grakle on, even with a pelham though - I need to ensure that I have brakes!!!
