grass belly??

a horse i ride for a friend suddenly got an extremly large belly last year, i didnt see him for few weeks returned and it had come up just like that, one year on he has still got it, he doesnt seem fat because u can see his ribs!? any ideas?

thats what i initially said so got advice from local shop about worming, got him wormed and now is on regular programme, would it still be large from this?

it would defently not be grass as there is no value in it to make him fat inless he is a good doer in that case it still propley be the fat from last years spring grass but
i would still get worming or do a worm count to c how much there is first
