Less than a month ago we had too much of the stuff, but due to the 'heatwave' it has all pretty much burnt off coupled with no rain to get it going again.

Having looked at the long term forecast, we are not due any significant rain for the next few weeks, by which time we will be looking like the Sahara desert!

Any one else in the same boat?

Yes, and it's fab!!!

I have one horse that is high risk lammi so Sahara is perfect for him,
the other one gets fat & gassy if grass is to lush so grazing a field of what now looks like hay is perfect!

Sorry to all those with skinny minnies :P

Well fortunately mine are good doers too, but am a little worried long term for the winter.

On the positive side at least my lawn mower is having a rest....!

No green grass at all in my girls paddocks. Just yellow dry nothingness with occasional dust bowl. They are only having a tiny amount of hay each a day as neither are doing much at the moment, they are not on hard feed and are getting bellies on them. I am having to pretty much delay my own recovery to work them from the ground enough to stop them getting fat.

I'm not minding at the moment. Suits me in the current situation and TBH, I refuse to complain as it won't be long before we are begging for a few dry days again :)

We've got rain this week which I am relieved about as I was starting to worry about a forage shortage, a water shortage (in Scotland Fgs!) and a grass shortage for my livestock. Hopefully a nice bit of rain will get things growing again and replenish the water table meaning we will get plenty of winter forage. Then I don't mind if it dries up again :). We weren't forecast rain til today (when it was already here!) so hopefully you might get some too!

Our diet paddock looked much the same and it started raining last night, I think with a little bit at some other point in the week, but it has started to get green already, so don't worry too much it picks up very quickly :-)

I have a horse and two ponies on 2.4 acres, split into 5 paddocks. I tend to leave them for 5 days in one, move them and hose the just-grazed paddock with the spray gun! Takes me 2/3 hours but at least we don't have yellow grass (or a water meter!).

We don't do that all the time, just when it's been blazing hot, and thankfully with all these storms this week my grazing is short but green. Thankfully we have another 2 acres for winter this year so are planning to overseed the somewhat patchy summer fields in autumn. I do have a lammy pony, but she wears a grazing muzzle during the day and as such I'm happy with what we have, even if I am still feeding the STB on micronised linseed.

I have been praying for rain, summer grass just brown and crinkly. I am pondering on sacrificing my winter bit. Last year had loads of grass as paddock not been used for a year but wondering how it will fare now. I know horses won t starve as they will get hay but I do like them to have the green stuff.

I prayed for no rain in summer lol baby was good doer and when grass dried back and she had to move and search she lost weight . kerching result :)
