Hi - had to get vet out Thursday as went to turn out and couldn't put any weight on it. Vet identified a grass crack had tracked up dirt that was pressing onto live hoof, he has dug this out and left approx. 1/2" hole in hoof which I am flushing out 3 x p/day and treating with bute. horse was instantly better after doing this and is now weight bearing so feel happy that this was the cause of lameness. Question is - vet advised to check for soundness after bute finishes and then take from there, if he is sound in a week should I start riding or do I need to wait for whole to grow out?? Any advice pls? Vet did say could abcess... thanks
