was going to post in the Vet forum but more people on here!!..one of my livieries has a TB X Conn gelding that since the change to spring grazing has suffered loosness and spells of diarrhoea. the worse case a few weeks ago had the vet prescribing a form of Kaholin tablet and thought he was borderline grass colic. He wears a grazing muzzle and is on a fairly lean field..some times he can be ok for week and then for example tonight is squirting everywhere..we have kept him in overnight on a dry hay ration...any ideas..feed merchant suggested giving him high fibre cubes to help bind him up...probiotic??..hes obviously a good doer (shes only had him since november ) but just seems really really sensitive to the grass..

I have found Aloe Vera Gel very helpful for my girl who had had intermittent diarrhoea for 6yrs whilst vets had investigated and I had tried various probiotics. She seem to be quite sensitive and the fresh grass (an a whole host of other feeds including sugar-beet and haylage) would cause liquid diarrhoea. I have been giving her Aloe Vera Gel in her feed for about 8months now and not had a bout of diarrhoea since (except when I stopped feeding the Aloe Vera to check it was that which was sorting the problem. Another woman has started feeding to her elderly TB now and it has work for him too. PM if you want any details of what I use etc... might be worth a try, I certainly wish it hadn't taken me 6yrs to find.

Has she wormed him?

If any of mine get a runny tummy (including the foals) I use (as recommended by my vet) Pepto Bismol. You can get it from any chemist.

Syringe it down twice a day at the following rates - for a foal I give 50 - 75 mls per dose, for a pony 150 mls and for a horse 200 - 250 mls. It sooths and settles the tummy.

Beware when syringing it down foals gullets though as they are cheeky little ******* and very quickly master the art of regurgitating and spraying it and as its a shockingly bright pink it goes literally everywhere!
