Im happy where i am but im just curious about the above?!

If you have NO school and cant hack to one daily.... how do you ride in winter(dark nights) on a field or do you just not ride in winter?

Ive always been on livery yards but ive noticed recently grass livery getting very popular/field renting?

I like my comfy stables/school but wondering how you all cope riding wise??

I dont mind as long as i have an arena
I only ride on a weekend in winter as we have no arena, but in summer we have a large riding field, but hoping to move this autumn if possible.
I would much rather have an arena and no stable than a stable and no arena, as long as their well rugged and fed i find them just as happy living out :)

i only work part time so i ride in the afternoon, but i do ride a lot less in the winter, but then i have no desire to battle with wind and rain just for a hack.

thanks for the replies :)

ive heard a few people who manage to compete from the field?

I coludnt do it yet until i decide to put my mare in foal/give her time off :)

I've never been on a yard or had a menage available . I've had horses for 40 years, backed and schooled, sorted problem horses in my younger days. I school in a corner of the field, except I cant do that where I am now as I have nowhere flat enough. I do everything on the lanes bridleways and forest tracks. I ride during the day in winter as not at work. I dont ride much in the winter as its often foggy or frosty or snow, i remove shoes and just do a bit as and when I can. I do other things, there is more to life than riding.

I've never had an arena.

Have produced 3 to Olympia, several for HOYS and many to NPS/P(UK) and BSPS champs as well as county level showing (inc workers to 15hh) as well as winter drag hunting (and also PC when it could be fitted in). All done with schooling whilst hacking, or using a corner of a paddock for the initial backing - or for final brushing up or popping a few fences if the ground was ok.

Would rather have my 5-8 box yard in a good hacking area & its within a reasonable distance of home too :)
