I have been trying to work out if there is any way I could possibly juggle a horse/work/commute when I move back to London. I think could only manage to get to the yard once a day so the only possible way I think it could work is if I could find "full grass livery" somewhere. Basically a field and shelter but be able to pay extra for someone to check he's alive, feed if I'm on holiday, bring in for the farrier (abit like some DIY yards which offer services). All the yards I know in north London ration grass like its gold; so is this a pipe dream or does anyone have this set up??

I think Strangeways does grass livery in summer months, it's round 40 pounds a week (I think), call and check them. I'm sure some yards def do that, it's just a matter of searching what suits you.

As well as Horse House (Ducks Hill Farm) there are a couple more farms along Ducks Hill Road that might do it. Otherwise a couple more along Breakspear Rd North in Harefield.

Thanks for your replies and PMs. Its more encouraging than I thought. I think I am just going to have to drive around and ask in places and try through word of mouth too.

Would Rickmansworth be too far out?? There is grass livery there, its really cheap like £6 a week but if you want a stable only £15 a week and I am pretty sure a stable has become avaliable. There are people there and I could also check on any horses there (and have done a lot!). They live out in a herd and no more than 1 horse per acre is allowed on at any time :)
