Grass re inforcement mats

Need to firm up turning area for vehicles and I dont want to use hardcore, planings or gravel. May be able to get second hand stuff that councils use for car parks or the rubbery stuff with holes in that you pin into the turf. Any experiences/advice, it's got to withstand regular use with the horsebox?

I have found that after they have been driven over a few times, they tend to sink into the ground...and then become more slippery than the mud itself. It is what is used at my yard in the 'car park'.

These mats are dangerous to shod horses, they have some outside a cottage in our village and when we try to move over for passing cars and the ponies step on them they are very slippery

We have some on the field outside work to provide additional parking places, sunk in slightly but do a brilliant job - can't see why these would become splippery to horses - I'll ask our Facilities Manager where they came from
