Daughter has had pony for coming up 3 weeks now, he's very good only prob is he's a ****** for the grass and will just plunge his head down and get the grass whenever we stop - even at the side of the road to let a car past! The other day he did it in the field and daughter toppled over his head (she was dismounting at the time then he plunged his head down for grass and she went flying!
Am considering a good old fashioned grass rein from baler twine.
Would you ask the owner first or just stick one on? if he was ours there would be no problem, would just put one on him.
Pretty new to loaning and didn't want to do anything which the owner might not like!

If you were thinking of buying a stronger bit or something like that then I'd say ask the owner first, but daisy reins aren't going to interfere with or change the way the pony's worked and certainly won't be detrimental, so personally I'd just use them and get on with it. We bought some aerborn ones for our shetland, cost about £8 and they're awesome

I thought so, just wanted to make sure! :D

Am sure daughter will be happier when pony isnt pulling her forwards and off!

Other than her little fall shes doing really well with him, shes riding out along side myself and my cob. Although we only go 15 mins round the block shes so much more confident! the next thing she needs is a decent seat saver, she keeps complaining of the saddle being far too hard!
