A couple of weeks ago the horses moved into a new field with lots of grass, which I thought was brilliant at the time as he could do with putting some more condition on. At first he was unsettled which I was expecting anyway, but he just doesn't seem to be settling at all, the grass has blown his teeny tiny brain and it is difficult to do anything constructive with him.

If he was a good doer I would consider muzzling him, but he needs the grass.

What would you do?

When the grass is growing quickly - like now, in all this rain! - it can become deficient in magnesium so your horse becomes twitchy, tense and generally loopy so you need to supplement his feed. Equine America do a magnesium supplement called Magnitude which is about £18 a small tub , (other brands are available!) but it lasts for months.

You'll soon see a change in him IF it is a mag. deficiency.

Tb's are naturally a bit loony like that(don't crit i have one myself) mine certainly went a bit "fresh" when the new grass came through last year, I just rode her through it. I didn't feed any supplements, but she got better after a while. x

I have upped my fed to a half measure of Feedmark Steady up, he is fine when ridden, just seems to be a bit feral when being brought in from the field, he also get half scoop of Laminator for a general mineral and to guard against laminitis.

Second the mag ox comment :)

Fig went very fizzy and bouncy when the new shoots starting appearing, put him onto some Cal Mag which returned him to his usual passive self. Took him off it for a week and had a springbok instead of a pony.

Deffo works!
