My beautiful 6 year old lad has grass sickness. I am nursing him at home (two and a half weeks since diagnosis) and oh boy it is so very hard. I don't think I have any tears left to cry.

I've had a very helpful chat on practicalities of care with one of the grass sickness nurses at the Dick Hospital in Edinburgh but would really appreciate some advice from anyone out there who has gone through what I'm going through right now.

Please do PM me.

Many thanks.

A.

I cant help with grass sickness but have nursed horses with various illnesses over the years and know how hard it can be.You will be struggling after all this time with a very sick horse.
You are obviously doing all you can and to get him this far must give you real hope for a full recovery.
Keep up with the good work and I am sure he will pull through for you, lots of vibes coming your way.

Really hope your horse pulls through - have you looked at the www.grassickness.org.uk website - there is a useful leaflet on there which you might find useful. FYI a friend of mine has a stallion that had GS and is now siring foals, needs careful management but he looks fantastic.

I'm so sorry about your horse and sending lots of vibes for a speedy recovery. I lost a horse to something similar.

Not sure if it's already been said but it's probably unwise to turn your horse or any other equines out in the same paddock.

My heart goes out to you. I lost my 6 year old mare on Friday to acute grass sickness. She was brought in at 9am not seeming herself and by 9pm she had been subject to every effort of the vets and was put to sleep. EGS is just devastating. I am angry at myself as there was a case on the yard 3 years ago and now I have lost my talented and sweet girl. You have hope though as your boy is still fighting and there is hope of a recovery. Thinking of you and praying for you. Chin up and everything crossed. x
