As part of my dissertation for my second year of my HND at Guildford College, Merrist Wood campus I’m looking at whether the breed of horse effects the likelihood of getting EGS at whether it effects the prognosis. I would be very grateful if owners with horses/ponies who have suffered from EGS could fill out this brief questionnaire.

What date was the horse diagnosed with EGS?

What was the age and gender of the horse?

What region was the horse was the horse in when it was diagnoses with EGS?

What breed is the horse?

Did the horse suffer from acute/ chronic or sub-chronic EGS?

Did you choose to:
• Euthanize without treatment?
• Euthanize during treatment?
• Euthanize post treatment?
• Or treat it and the horse made a full recovery?

Did the horse live in or out?

I appreciate that some of the information provided in this questionnaire is going to be sensitive to most horse owners. However any information you supply will be strictly confidential. No names will be mention in the study and the information supplied will not be used for any other purpose.

Thank you for your time.

As extra help for you, The yard where I was stabled lost 4 Horses in 1 year to Grass sickness. All under the age of 6 and all relatively new to the Paddock.
6 months later, a young cob was diagnosed, had 6 months of treatment and survived.
A year after this, my horse was in seperate paddock at the same yard for 1 week, then moved away. She was diagnosed 2 weeks later and was PTS 1 month after that.
They have since lost a 9yr old gelding who has grazed the same field for 7 years.

Good luck with the research. If you haven't done so already, I suggest you post in New Lounge and/or Veterinary rather than Latest News.

Thanks you very much KBstaff. Do you know the details of these other cases? If you do that would be fantastic. Also would you be able too answer if there where any triggers you could think of. Also do you know what the paraylsis was a result of and how they tryed to treat her? many thanks. I really appreciate every contribution. Sam
