My two are going to have to go out on a lot more grass eventually to give the winter paddock a rest. I really don't want to let them gorge themselves on grass, especially the pony and will carry on bringing them in either in the day or night but I was thinkning about using a grazing muzzle for them while they are out. Are there muzzles which allow limited grass rather than none at all - I would like them to have somthing while they are out, just not unlimited.

The pony is a 13.2 cob and my boy is a 16.2 cob.

As I've mentioned on the previoius thread Greenguard are the best, some people complain that their horse either manages to get out off or manages to get their nose round it. If they spent some time adjusting it to fit correctly they wouldn't have any problems at all. They are expoensive, but they're the best, & when adjusted correctly they fit superbly allow the right amount of grass.

yep I second Toby_Zaphod the greenguards are the best. Once correctly fitted they are brilliant. They do take time to get them fitting correctly but well worth the effort.

Best Friend is great. It has a wee hole so the poor wee mite can get grass. It means mine can go out and not pig out on the grass and have anothetr attack of laminitis.Used it for the past three years from Spring to Autumn.

Thanks everyone! I will bear the suggestions in mind if it comes to it - luckily we have just been allocated a paddock without much grass!

I have one that is heavy duty fabric and lined with a type of neoprene. My horse must be the best good doer in the country and as I like him to live out as much as possible he wears the muzzle for 12-15 hrs a day especially when spring grass comes through. They get used to it, make sure isn't too small and has velcro straps so is field safe. Frogpool Manor sell one for about £13.50 has lasted me 3 years so far and still looks fine, i chuck it in the washing machine and ryan eats and drinks just fine in it. That way he gets the lifestyle without laminitus. Takes a bit of getting your head around but I would rather he had turnout to keep joints mobile and this way he stays a bit thinner!
