Here is the fluff I put on my horse's muzzle:

I did also last year put fluff around the top of his muzzle by feeding it through the top holes.

Tried to show how I did it. I wrapped the fluff round and sewed it together:

i have had to do the same thing for my horse - poor boy got so rubbed last year Im not taking any chances this year. I like your funky purple stuff!

Oooh interesting...im just trying to modify my girlies as its made 2 sores under her chin and rubbing the hair of her nose

...tonight i got some vet wrap and weaved it though the holes so its got extra padding, will see if that works

I've said for a long time that these 'bucket' type webbing muzzles are not very well designed. Owners have to sew on padding. Some enlarge the hole in the bottom to allow more grass to be available to the horse. For owners to have to do this shows them to be a poorly designed muzzle........... I've used Greenguard for 3 seasons now without any problem. They are more expensive yes but once fitted correctly don't cause problems like you & many other owners are experiencing.

Agree greenguard muzzles are good. I don't agree with cutting extra holes in the 'bucket' muzzles as horses do learn how to use them.

However, the bucket muzzle cost me £12 and a large ream of fluff from a market stall cost me £2 where as a greenguard muzzle costs around £40 and a headcollar for it costs around £12 so a bucket muzzle is a lot cheaper and once I did the fluff (which took 5 min to do) I don't have any problems.

The greenguard one rubbed my horse more than the bucket ones ever do, and you can't get the fluff to stay on those!

My Greenguard was a waste of money for me, so if anyone wants to buy it - only has 2 straps left as my horse ate through the other 2!

With Daisy we found that her muzzle rubbed wherever there was metal or a seam so her "fluff" is much more extensive and literally covers the entire headcollar section. I did hers in black fleecy material and it looks like it was always meant to be there because you can't see any of the headcollar itself anymore
