I have just got my new dinky rugs muzzle for my mini & introduces it how i should. Leaving it on her for an hour then taking it off. Problem being she is walking round the field hating it trying to get it off wondering how it works! How long does it take for them to 'work it out'? i feel like a bad mother though doing a good thing! Its that or being locked in a stable which i hate doing & all my fields have grass (not that great though good enough for a mini!) & she likes being out with the others. Any hints & tips greatly appreciated.

They all have a bit of a strop at first but I've never seen one not work it out. Is there anywhere that you can hide and see if the pony settles down to eat when it thinks you're not looking?

Thanks for the words of optimism! Im in the house (can see the field from most rooms!) & she is wandering about trying to get it off not sure if she's attempting to eat or trying to root it into the ground! How long do you leave it to begin with?

Niko - did she sort it out? Or can anyone else advise?

I have just bought a dinky muzzle for a Welsh A loan pony i have. I have used the Best Friend on my horses in the past and all worked that one out pretty fast, but I thought this would be more comfy for the pony. However I spent 2hrs watching her this monring and no sign (she wouldnt really even try -just stood and sulked) and to my knowledge she didnt graze today (it came of this afternoon). I have never had this happen before and don't know if it is because the Dinky is actually harder to work out (the hole isn't in the middle).

can anyone help? dont really want to shell out for a BF which is twice the price.

thanks
alice

well i have a BF, not a mini - its a draft but suppose its all relative :)

Had the same problem, in the end i cut the hole bigger - into a oblong shape (dont know if the shape makes any difference!)

He 'got it' immediatley afterwards, watching him it looked like he couldn't get a grip on the grass with his teeth through the manufactered size hole?

knowing him though he probably knew what bush i was camped in and it was all a ploy :)
