Grazing muzzle in December?

My h/w cob is living out and despite the recent freezing ? temperature we still have plenty of grass. He is hunter clipped and currently in a 50g rug yet still needs to lose weight. Is using a grazing muzzle at this time of year ok? His exercise has been restricted due to the weather and he’s put a grass belly back on ?‍?

I would have thought so. I was at a yard when the owner bought a pony in December for her grandchildren. Put it out on the grass and it got laminitis.
Better to be save than sorry IMO.

my little rescue went down with laminitis at the end of November.... and i watch him like a hawk and it still caught me out...

Mine are both muzzled. I can’t take any chances with our grass.

Mine is muzzled all year round, not had lami but has EMS and i just dont risk it, even when she is on next to no grass

My cob and my tb are currently in muzzles as are on plenty of grass.
I've also not been able to exercise much due to the weather.
Some people on the yard are a bit puzzled, but the muzzles are doing their job, and they are both looking just about right

It’s a nightmare. I live in constant fear if I’m honest. I love winter now because I can relax a bit, but I can’t take my eye off the ball. Made that mistake once and paid for it.

My ponies wear one if needed what ever the weather or time of year. When we switch field in the new year they will go back on regardless of anyone saying there is no goodness in the grass over winter they will still wear them but I will have hay piles out

Mine wore them all the time up until the freezing weather and I am going to put them back on tomorrow.
mine live out and get no hay in the field .
