Was hoping someone would be able to give me some advice to what type of grazing muzzle I should buy.

My boy currently has a Shires padded one like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/SHIRES-EQUESTRIAN-PADDED-GRAZING-MUZZLE/dp/B0058IBU3K but he manages to get it off really easily every time as even if I do it tight he can pull the top part over his ears.

Does anyone know of any brands that are really hard for the horse to get off but aren't uncomfortable?

I have my mini in a Dinky one, he managed to get the Shires one off constantly and I was really at my wits end until I found the Dinky.

He has it on all year round and as well as the fact he hasn't got it off it also hasn't rubbed him which is a miracle considering he has it on 18 hours a day every day. He doesn't even try to get it off whereas he was constantly working at the Shires one.

Despite being a "Dinky" they do make them for full size horses.

Greenguard muzzles are brill - he's never managed to get it off or eat through it. Expensive but worth it - he ate 2x Aerborn and a Dinky! The Greenguard has lasted 2 summers now. I attach it to a field safe head collar. You can get Greenguard head collars but don't know what they're like. I've not had a problem with it rubbing either - unlike other muzzles.

I did my shires up really tight (but loose enough to work) so it couldn't be slipped over the ears, and tied twine around the Velcro bits so they couldn't be rubbed off or ripped open too easily. My horses are experts at getting them off but I couldn't risk that as we have so much grass they had colic when they got them off. Had no problems since! they gave up trying to get them off once they figured out they couldn't. On one occasion the muzzle did get stuck on the fence and it still came off and broke at the plastic buckle so I feel they are still safe
