Hey :)
My pony who is almost fully recovered from lami has just gone from strip grazing alone to sharing once again (finally!) with my other mare, in a larger paddock with more grass which is fairly long & less sugary.. But she's having a rubber bucket muzzle on 24/7 (except while we're doing stuff with her).
She'd only had it on for one day when I noticed it's already rubbed 2 patches under her chin bald! I knew this was a common problem, so have got some electrical tape ready for later :)
Was just wondering what you guys have found to be the best cure for rubbing?
Thought about getting sheepskin but don't know if that will make her sweat & make it worse? Or can I get some thin enough to be a happy medium?
All ideas gratefully received :)

My pony has 2 rubs, but I was putting vaseline on daily, and the skin never broke. They have just hardened up now....

I have fully sheep skinned my horses muzzle & works a treat! I've got it right round the 'bucket' part of muzzle, down both sides & on throat strap (hes a wee bit sensitive)
Does make him look like sheep in field but no rubs ever now.
I don't find he sweats in it but I use the nuumed head collar set so is natural sheepskin

shires do a new deluxe model with cut back under the chin and padded with sheepskin.

Maisy, think I will use Vaseline for a few days as her skin was starting to look a bit tender :)
But, think I'll go for the sheepskin option in the long run, thanks Chocy :)
And Daisy2, I'll bear this in mind if I can't alter mine enough to make it work but it's practically brand new so I don't want to give up on it just yet :p
Thanks guys :D

I had to buy a size bigger than I thought I would need (so cob size for an 11hh pony), pad all round the bucket bit with strips of carwash sponge, and covered it in fleece material. Never had a rub since:) And it's all washable so can stick it in the washing machine.

That sounds like a clever fix! Will bear that in mind if my current plan doesn't work as I have already ordered some sheepskin :)
