Hi All,
Just wanted to share my amazing joy at the results from using a grazing muzzle. My dear pony eats like Mr. Creosote and only stops when she can't possibly fit another thing in. My yard owner recently changed her paddock (unbeknown to me, but whatever), and she blew up in 2 days got cresty and hwere you could once see shoulder and hip it was just all round. It was suggested that I parcel off a piece of the field thus seperating her from her best mate, but wasn't confident who would be checking to see if she had water and was not getting herself tangled up during the day. I had a muzzle so plonked it on. Remarkable, she got the hang of it in a day after I left her to it, I can see her shoulder and hip and I don't have a beer gut to contend with When riding. I have been told that its cruel and not fair, but as she is happily grazing, ready to come in and not so lethargic, I give them the thumbs up. Also as a little incentive to those who feel its cruel, welfare law would have me prosecuted for allowing her to get over weight, penning a horse is just as bad as shutting them in a stable for 18 hours a day where they don't move, fall asleep and loose condition. She is the right temperment for my lifestyle, and sucks boo ! Anyone who wants to write anything derogatory, I suggest you don't bother and look out the window, its raining and its going to get hot, hope you are ready for laminitis. Or to put it another way...would you ask a 20 stone man to get on a tread mill and run 10 miles? I certainly wouldn't and I won't ask my pony to do it either.
