at the moment i have my porky cob in a shires muzzle for around 10 hours a day, then i take it off at night.
my question is, how long do you leave your horse muzzled for or what system do you use to restrict his grazing? thanks

My horse has his shire's muzzle on all day and off at night (week days that is from about 6am til half 6pm)

I've divided my wee shetlands paddock (about an acea) in to three smaller ones for the summer. The grass is pretty lush so he is in a muzzle until it is eaten down then off at day and then night and on during the day; when it's well eaten it's off for a few days. By this time the paddocks pretty well grazed down and he goes into next the paddock and the muzzles back on etc...

Just interested what muzzle you use for your shettie? I haven't seen any that look tiny enough?

My shetland wears a Best Friend Grazing Muzzle. He is out on very good grass from 7am to 6pm. After that he is in his stable with a small amount of hay. At the weekend, because I am at home, I only let him have a half day in the field. He is kept like this all year. His only job is to keep my TB company, so he is rarely ridden. I do try to lunge him though.

Daisy is in a fenced off area about 50mx40m and she wears her grazing muzzle when it has been raining and for a few days afterwards when the grass is really sprouting. I don't find them to be a permanent or long term solution because hers rubs so badly if left on fo long periods but it is a useful tool.

He's 35" so 8.2HH and in a pony size one!! Certainly wouldn't want it any smaller. Pretty certain he's in a shires one?

I'm feeling awful! Mine wears her's 24 hrs. She'd still be bloated and fat if she didn't, she gets a feed (hifi good doer and slim&healthy) to replace what she doesn't get from limited grass grass.
