Can anyone recommend grazing muzzles in as much as which stay on the best?

Am thinking of trying a muzzle for my shetland for the first time. He's a bugger for getting his fly mask off so not sure whether I can trust a muzzle to stay on either.

Have looked at the Shires ones and the Greenguard. Think I would have to wrap tank tape round both to keep them on!! Was thinking of plaiting his mane and forelock over the headpiece to help it stay on place.

What sizes do these muzzles come in? He's got a large muzzle but small head. He currently fits into a foal headcollar, but if the muzzles come with a brow band, then he'd be a regular pony size

if it's any help, my shettie takes a small pony bridle, and has the pony size shires muzzle. And you know the velcro 'safety' feature? .... he can get it undone!! So I changed it for a buckle (took a buckle off an old headcollar and put it on the muzzle).
I found that the actual muzzle part of it is a little deep on his nose, so we had to make the hole bigger so he could actually reach a little grass. It's adjustable in about four places so as long as you change the velcro for a buckle he won't get it off.
I am saving up for the greenguard muzzle, but I'm not buying the headcollar that goes with it as I don't think it'll come up small enough. I'll just use one of my own.

my shetland - who is very good by shetland standards - wont keep muzzles on full stop! hes a standard shetland so just in regular pony size, i 1st tried a bucket styleeee one - no good, then invested in a greenguard one - last a few days, now i just restrict how longs hes out in spring/summer etc.

good luck - i must say - the electric fencing may long term be the best option - plus when it comes down to turning them out in a muzzle the 1st few times - you feel like pants!!! as the fight to try and get them off!

You need a Best Friend muzzle. My cob cannot get out of it and it works brilliantly. it does not take a greedy pony long to work out how to nibble grass throught it. Do a google search to find the website. I got mine from it. There is a short video explaining its function it saved my cob's life after laminitis.

My mare, who isn't a shetland I'll accept, could get her shires muzzle off so i added an extra band of webbing material around her nose so that it was much deeper and couldn't be slid off. They're really individual for all horses. Could someone lend you one to try for a day rather than you having to go through several different ones before you buy one that works?
