Hi,
I have 2 shire horse brood mares, one is due to foal in the next couple of days.
I have lost my grazing and its urgent that i find grazing, a field to rent or grass keep for them close to shepton mallet, wells or glastonbury.
does anybody know of anything please.
These horses are on the rare breeds list, and im desperate to keep them and find grass for them.
Please if anybody can help or knows of anything then please let me know.
My email is kissmyhorse@hotmail..co.uk
Thanks for reading this.

I presume you are already in the area. In view of the urgency, speak to your vet as well as the usual things of cards in tack shops, agricultural feed merchants etc.Vets know a huge amount of people, and might know of a friendly farmer who could help you out short-term.
But time is not on your side. Is it in fact OK to move the in-foal mare so near to foaling (have never bred horses so don't know)?

I could ask around here for you, but we're over 20 miles from Glastonbury, Wells etc.

Really sorry for your predicament.

Hi, yes im in oakhill, but i travel to glastonbury everyday for work. so i dont mind anywhere between the 2. I have to be off the land by the 20th of msrch, so the foal will be a couple of weeks old by then. so will be fine to travel. i wouldnt even mind renting a whole field or evrn a small yard of my own. im up for any suggestions, but they need to live out with space. please ask around for me. thanks

Flowerpip, I'm the wrong side of you as I'm much closer to Bath.

Try an advert in Mole Valley Farmers, also A J Wyatts of Stowey (I know that's miles away from you but it's a very busy feed merchants, loads of farmers etc and someone might know of someone).

This is a really long shot, but you might get some advice/help from Radford Shires. They are based quite near us and, as their name suggests, have superb teams of Shire Horses. My guess is that they know everyone there is to know with a Shires interest within a wide radius. I don't know the name of the owners, but the man was really helpful one midwinter night when I found some loose horses on a road on my way back from dog-training!!
